If we are to defeat the terrorists, we must
learn how to live in fear

It is a relief to leave the recent terrors of London and arrive in the
peace-soaked Pyrenean Marian shrine of Lourdes.
Just before I left to lead the annual pilgrimage, a police helicopter dropped
into the cathedral complex where I live, thudding out the boys' choir next door.
It turned out to be a security alert at Victoria station. Earlier, at a nearby
Tube station, police had fired bullets into an innocent immigrant worker from
Brazil,
mistaking him for a suicide-bomber.
